Creating a home altar can be a beautiful way to set aside a dedicated space for your meditation and manifestation. Adding crystals, candles, palo santo and sage to your altar will enhance the energy, creating a ritual that connects deeper with your intentions. We've put together some handy tips for you to support this journey in creating your own altar.

Step 1: Choose your altar space

The first step is to choose a space in your home where you can set up your altar. It can be a small table, shelf, or any area you can dedicate to your practice. Choose a sacred and peaceful space, such as a corner in your bedroom or a quiet spot in your living room. It's best to choose a space where you won't be disturbed and is easy to return to each day.

Step 2: Select your crystals

Choosing crystals for your altar is a personal process. You may like to choose crystals based on their properties and energies. For example, Amethyst is known for its calming properties and is often used for meditation. Clear Quartz is a versatile crystal that can amplify the power of other crystals and is often used for manifestation. You can also choose crystals based on colour, shape, or simply what resonates with you.

Step 3: Set up your altar

Now it's time to set up your altar. Start by placing a cloth on your chosen surface. This can be a beautiful piece of fabric, a silk scarf, a traditional tapa or any material you feel drawn to. Next, intuitively arrange your crystals on the cloth in a way that feels symbolic to you. Crystal mandalas can be a powerful way to connect with the energy of your crystals.

Step 4: Choose your candles.

In addition to their warm, supportive glow, candles can infuse your altar with intention-enhancing scents. Consider selecting candles with fragrances that align with your desired outcome. If you're seeking to cultivate self-love, choose candles with floral scents like rose or lavender. Want to manifest abundance and prosperity? Choose a candle with a refreshing scent like peppermint or cinnamon. Place your chosen candles on your altar and start your practice by lighting them to surround you with their aromatic energy.

Step 5: Purify the energy with Sage or Palo Santo

Californian White Sage and Palo Santo are potent tools for purifying your altar's energy. Before beginning your practice:

  1. Take a moment to cleanse your altar.
  2. Light the Sage or Palo Santo using your candle and allow the smoke to float over yourself and your altar.
  3. As you do so, visualize any negative energy being dispelled and replaced with positive, high-vibration energy. This simple act can help you feel more connected to your practice and create a more powerful experience.

Glimmer Tip: Open a window to ensure the energy can leave the space.

Step 6: Meditate and manifest

Now that your altar is set up, it's time to use it for meditation and manifestation.

  1. Sit comfortably in front of your altar.
  2. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to connect with the energy of your crystals and your energy body.
  3. Set an intention for your meditation, or let yourself be present in what is alive for you now. Visualize your intentions and feel the energy of your crystals and candles supporting you.
  4. Continue with your own meditation or manifestation practice. Some of our favourites include:
    1. Focus on the space between breaths.
    2. Repeat a mantra or manifestation, for example, "I am here."
    3. Body scan from your crown to your toes.
    4. Loving-Kindness Meditation: Also known as Metta meditation, direct love and kindness towards yourself and others.

Creating a space for your home altar can be a powerful way to enhance your meditation and manifestation practice. This sacred space supports you in showing up every day so that you may manifest your desires while supporting yourself in a beautiful self-care ritual.
